PALs – built-in patient safety

Whether it is gynaecology, urology, proctology – or increasingly procedures such as laparoscopic oesophageal hernia repairs – some of the key aspects for medical staff to consider include surgical access and patient safety in terms of the control and manoeuvrability of their legs and hip joints.

Anetic Aid’s range includes the power assisted lithotomy PAL Pro Stirrups – which address both of these issues. Sold in pairs, the familiar blue self-adjusting standard boots minimise pressure on the calf when moving the stirrup and the hydraulic mechanism allows easy movement of the leg when placing it in the desired position without compromising the sterile field: simply releasing the handle secures the leg holder in all directions. Lithotomy range: +90º to -22ºAbduction range: +12º to -9º Said Sales Director Andrew Curtin: ’The PALs have visual indicators to help ensure precise positioning. This is the highest level of stirrup and one we don’t hesitate to recommend.

‘We are also very mindful of lifting and handling issues, and in additional to the benefits to surgeons and patients – the fact that the stirrups are powered is also beneficial to staff responsible for positioning the patient. In fact we have just introduced a heavy duty version with wider stirrups able to take greater weight for bariatric patients.’
